Jamie Lynn Spears, the 17-year-old sister of Britney Spears, has given birth to her first child, Maddie Brian Aldridge, her representatives have confirmed.
The teenage actress delivered a baby girl at 09:33 local time (15:33 BST) on Thursday at a hospital near Liberty, Mississippi.
"Both mom and baby are healthy and happy," a rep for Jamie Lynn told OK! magazine.
"They are surrounded by their close relatives, including Jamie Lynn's older sister Britney, mother Lynne, father Jamie and brother Bryan."
Jamie Lynn told the magazine in December that she was three months into her pregnancy and was shocked when doctors confirmed the news.
She added that the father of the child was her boyfriend Casey Aldridge and that she had waited for two weeks before informing her family.
After news broke of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy, a publisher confirmed that a parenting book by her and Britney's mother was to be delayed indefinitely.
Lynne Spears was to publish Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World on Mother's Day next year, but the book's release was shelved in the wake of Jamie Lynn's pregnancy announcement.
Jamie Lynn, a former star of Zoey 101, and Aldridge got engaged in March before purchasing a home in Liberty, where they plan on raising their new daughter.
Erin Sanders, who acted with Jamie Lynn on the Nickelodeon show, said the young mother's age would not be a barrier to her being a good mother.
"She is just a very good-hearted and warm person," he told People magazine.
"We would always hang out on the set and she is a lot of fun, so I think she's going to be an easygoing, fun mom."
